Looking to upgrade GPU...could use some suggestions/help
« on: October 17, 2015, 07:53:47 PM »
My GTX 760 was supposed to be a temporary card until I could fund something better. Did so much better than I expected that I haven't bothered to change it but I'm falling behind in the GPU arms race obviously. Now I was looking at 970s, then I saw 980s, finally saw the 980Ti and I was torn between cost/performance. I mean I could spend for a Titan if I wanted to but I don't know if I could sleep well at night spending 600+ bucks on a card. I'm hoping to be 1440p ready for when I start shopping for a serious monitor. I'm still learning the ropes when it comes to PC building/upgrading and was hoping you guys could also double check compatibility and what not to make sure I'm not messing anything up (Especially mobo since I didn't select it).

Current Rig (Win10 64bit)
Processor: i7-4820K (No OC)
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro @2400mhz
GPU: GeForce GTX 760
Cooling: Corsair Hydro H60 (6 or so case fans)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X79-UP4 (LGA 2011) <- This is what I'm most worried/confused about
Power: 800w (Unsure of exact brand)

Let me know if you need more details

I'd say your fine upgrading but if you want check out PC Part picker, it will let you know if some parts are incompatible, its a great website.

ya go to part picker. due to cost factors, i just upgraded my gpu for a gtx 960 SSC 4gb ram and was blown away by its performance.... and i picked it up for $200 off amazon on sale. i would say a 970 or 980 is more than enough. im now running arma anywhere from 40-60 frames. on top of that my cpu is an older i7 920 overclocked to 3500Ghz so its not the newest or latest by any means.
