Time Commitment?
« on: April 24, 2020, 05:52:59 PM »
Hey guys,
I'm looking to possibly join, the only issue I have is the possible time commitment. I'm currently an active duty Marine and can be away from my computer for days to weeks at a time sometimes. Also, early Monday morning PT's could make things like Sunday nights hard for me. Are you guys flexible at all with attendance? I'd love to join, just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.

Thanks,

Kwall

Hi Kwall,

There are three stages to this.

All times are listed in US EST, and before you do any training you need to undergo the Recruiting process here:
https://www.506thir.net/forums/index.php?board=2.0

1 - Recruit Training
During your Recruit training, you'll have to attend 1 class approx 60-90 mins in duration.
These classes currently run on Monday @ 1900, Tuesday @ 2100, Saturday at 1200 and Sunday at 1500.
Recruit classes are listed here: https://www.506thir.net/forums/index.php?board=3.0

2 - OSUT
After your Recruit Training, you will need to attend 4 days of  OSUT. OSUT classes are around 2.5-3 hours in duration.
These classes are currently run on Tuesdays and Thursday @ 1900 and Saturdays and Sundays @ 1400.
After OSUT, and only after OSUT, are you a "full member" of the unit.
OSUT classes are listed here (accessible once you complete Recruit training): https://www.506thir.net/forums/index.php?board=26.0

3 a - Active Billet (I'm assuming Infantry - this changes slightly if you're a supporting asset)
If you take an active billet, you will hold a spot on the roster and will have required attendance.
You'll have 4 squad trainings a month, each between 1.5 - 3 hours. There are squads which train on "almost" every day of the week.
You'll have 1 platoon training a month, normally 2.5 - 3 hours. Currently all platoon trainings are on Saturdays or Sundays.
You'll have 2 operations a month, again 2.5-3 hours, and either Saturday or Sunday.
You'll have to attend a decent percentage of these operations to hold your spot.

3 b - Reserve Billet
If you take a reserve billet, you won't have a fixed spot on the roster and no "guaranteed" spot for ongoing events. However most events will ask for fillins to fill out their numbers, and there's your chance to take part basically.
Events will be at the same durations as listed above, but the difference is that you can attend one a month, or one a day, whatever you have time for.
You'll have to be online on the forums at least once every 60 days to retain a reserve billet - but that's it.

Hope that helps. Any questions, get in touch with a S-1 Recruiter and they can go through this in more detail more appropriate to your personal situation.
