SUBJECT: (S) SKOZISTANSITUATION: (S) WASHINGTON AIRBASE HIT BY VBIED
ANALYST COMMENT: (S)
In an unprecedented ISIS direct attack against NATO forces in the Skozistan region, a VBIED bombed Washington Airbase earlier today. ISIS has claimed responsibility via social media. A vetted local vendor who uses 15’ box cargo trucks arrived at the front gate for a scheduled delivery. Upon entry, the vehicle initially drove its typical route but soon veered and detonated a large payload of explosives. Two NATO soldiers from France were killed by the explosion, with twelve others reporting varying degrees of injuries. No US forces were in the area as they are quartered on the opposite side of the Airbase. The driver was killed instantly. EOD is currently investigating the vehicle and determining the level of sophistication.

SITUATION: (S) SKOZISTAN GOVERNMENT DENYING ACCESS TO NATO, WORKING WITH TERRORIST FORCES

In July 2018, the activities of NATO forces and UN personnel began to decline throughout the region at an alarming rate. It began with Skozistan military and police forces denying NATO or UN convoys access to, or the authority to operate within, several major cities and by early summer their movement was restricted to their operational bases and unpopulated areas. UN and NATO leaders have worked desperately to determine the reasons and establish better security for their forces while Skozistan’s government has been declining under the dominance of ISIS power. The direct pressure by ISIS forces on the government turned hostile as several government officials have been murdered over the past few weeks. Last week the NATO forces had been officially confined to the airbase unless invited out by the government. Multi-sourced intelligence has confirmed cooperation and collusion between ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Taliban in dealing with the government, and at this time the government appears to be complicit in their existence within their borders.
From March until August 2018, UN and NATO forces came under increasingly more lethal attacks from IED’s, suicide bombings, direct and indirect harassing fires, and larger groups of protesters. Crowds fired at security forces or vehicles and an unknown number of Molotov cocktails were thrown at or over the base walls. The lethal VBIED bombing is the culmination of their efforts, which so far had only wounded a few NATO soldiers and killed none.
