U.S. troops open fire on civiliansKelinga, Anizay - The U.S. military has returned to the Al-Anbar Governorate as part of Operation Dust Devil, and its opening salvo has already proven catastrophic for the people of Anizay, who had their first encounter with a U.S. convoy just this morning.
The image above shows the state of the daily vehicle of a reader of the Anizay News, who has requested to remain anonymous. This reader described the convoy as openly hostile to civilians and any civilian vehicles that dared to utilize their tax-paid public roads anywhere within 500 meters around the convoy, and freely opened fire without ever attempting to issue warnings via less-lethal methods. Anizay News has also received reports regarding a civilian shot and wounded within his own yard by the same convoy for unclear reasons.
U.S. troops had previously operated in the Al-Anbar Governorate in early 2024 during Operation Desert Fury, but mostly kept to the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah to the dismay of those cities’ populations and to the relief of Iraqis everywhere else. Per Western media outlets, the operation was allegedly a resounding success, yet Anizay has seen a sharp uptick in unrest and criminal activity in the recent months that can only be explained by the U.S. military’s failure to contain the militants from spreading.
Operation Dust Devil, therefore, is the U.S. military’s attempt to clean up their own mess. Only time can tell whether they’ll actually manage, or whether this operation will result in another, larger mess, but one thing is for sure: the people of Anizay will be in the the crossfire between two different kinds of terrorism for the foreseeable future.
