(S) A United Nations (UN) convoy was ambushed during transit from COP MORGAN near the village of Dehqobad at 1307, 30MAY25. The ambush lasted for seven minutes, resulting in two UN troops killed in action (KIA) and five walking wounded, with three more in critical condition, including a UN official from the Office of Field Investigations (OFI). The ambushers suffered at least three KIAs, but have managed to successfully withdraw with the bodies in the aftermath. As the convoy was returning to COP MORGAN, no cargo was loaded, and thus no cargo was lost in the attack. Three UN HMMWVs were disabled, and one HMMWV was catastrophically destroyed.

(S) This convoy's mission was two-fold: vacate personnel and materiel from COP MORGAN to facilitate the arrival of 1-506, and assist OFI in the investigation of ISIS activity in the region. Many UN convoys have been in constant motion at regular intervals since the UN first received communications regarding the 1-506's upcoming occupation of COP MORGAN on 29MAY25, and have faced little to no difficulty until this event. Intelligence strongly suggests that the presence of an OFI official is the primary motivating factor for this ambush taking place, especially after the Swords of Tarhid (SoT), who has nominal allegiance to ISIS, has come forward to take responsibility. Due to the sophistication of the ambush and the usage of IEDs, it is highly likely that the Al-Fulisan Brigade (AFB) was also involved in the planning and partial execution.

(S) The inclusion of the OFI official in this specific convoy was confidential information only accessible by UN and IAF officers with the appropriate clearance levels operating within the region, suggesting either the mishandling of confidential information by inexperienced officers, or a mole within either organisations. While the investigation into the leak is underway, the UN has elected to expedite the evacuation process from COP MORGAN via helicopters, assisted by increased IAF security.

(S) The ambush also marks a significant escalation by the splinter militant factions, likely as a response to the eventual return of the US Army. While not yet publicised, many significant actors within the region have been made aware of the 1-506's preparations for Operation Dust Devil, which is an expected outcome that cannot be mitigated due to the scale of logistics involved. The message is clear: US troops will be facing a much different force, in capabilities and tactics, than what the Sons of Al-Karbouli were known for.
