Title: should I Upgrade or should I keep what I have?
Post by: SGT (Ret) Caruthers on December 08, 2021, 08:07:43 PM
what I have is getting to be about 6 years old, but is still a powerhouse.

Core i7-6700K
GeForce GTX 980 Ti
16.0 GB
512 SSD

thanking about getting

i9 10850k
NVIDIA RTX 3080 10 GB
32GB (2x16GB) 3600mhz
1TB SSD Samsung

i can get this and all the other stuff needed for 2,000. is it worth the upgrade? or should I save the money for when this PC dies.

The parts shortage is going to change anytime soon, if you have the cash and can sort the parts at that price, run with scissors.

Prevention over reaction... the only way I could see this being a more pressing question is if a new line of tech was coming down the pipe, which very well may be- but based on what you have spec'd already, you'll be more than fine.
