I am building a new pc and am at the monitor purchasing step. I would like a 4K monitor but am wanting recommendations. Also when looking at monitors is there a lot of difference between a 120 & 144 refresh rate that’s noticeable? I have an rtx 3080 card with a ryzen 9 5950x cpu. Also 32g ram. Thank you in advance!

I would recommend getting a 2K (1440p) ~144-165Hz monitor, with GSYNC/FreeSync. There's not much noticeable difference between 120 and 144Hz, but its still nice to have overall. You'll notice more between monitors with GSYNC/FreeSync than without.

I’ve seen those terms gsync/freesync but need to read up on them since I don’t recall what they were about. Appreciate your advice and thank you! How about screen size? I was thinking 27”.

GSYNC/Freesync helps to reduce stutters and tearing when playing games. This (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT8f_1oRsLU)video is a good basic explanation, and https://www.testufo.com/vrr is a good site to simulate the differences. 27" is a good size and is perfect for 1440p resolution as anything lower in my opinion doesn't look as good.

Thank you for those videos. Definitely helped ALOT in my understanding of it all!

I've had this (https://www.amazon.com/AOC-U2879VF-Monitor-3840x2160-FreeSync/dp/B0163JLIWU) monitor for years with no issues. It is a 4k 60hz refresh rate and I have loved it. After playing on it for so long I can no longer use lower resolution monitors for playing games because they give me a headache (First world problems I know). If you can't find one that you really like I would definitely suggest this one.

Thank you! My son's been telling me to get the 4k. I am trying to do as much leg work as I can before pulling the trigger on a monitor. I've received good input on these forums and I am grateful for it! To add another fly to the ointment, I don't want a curved monitor. My wife will be doing some photo editing on it as well and I don't think curved works best or that.
