Title: Jae Lee's Unedited First Person Perspectives
Post by: 1LT J. N. Lee on May 08, 2017, 07:15:40 PM
I try to stay in first person as much as I can, but I will change to third person for movements outside of combat or for moments I deem worthy of an over-the-shoulder shot. As soon as we encounter any threat whatsoever though, you can bet that I'll stay locked onto first person.

This is my first recorded video ever, there are a couple of pauses in-between due to me alt-tabbing to check the stream's status, I'll try to get that fixed for the next one!

FTX on 07MAY2017 with Havoc 1-3.

Now this was a fun one, couldn't even go to sleep until I've got it up on youtube! Fun op during the night of 10MAY2017.

SSG Ferreiro decided it would be fun to make 17 people defend against roughly a dozen companies, a dozen attack helos, a dozen BTRs/BMPs, a dozen IDF fire missions, and a couple missile salvos on top from a dirt trench made by mother nature and some flimsy man-made trenches hastily dug up.

He was right.

P.S. I cheated a bit on this one in regards to perspective since it was a fun op :P

Field Training Exercise on 13MAY2017 saw 3rd Platoon - Havoc 3 - first securing a civilian-occupied town, then setting up positions to ambush an enemy convoy heading in from the East. Afterwards, we were to continue holding the town for an unspecified amount of time as we wait for enemy reinforcements to check on their convoy's status.

PV2 J. N. Lee's FIRST PERSON perspective from Havoc 3-1 Alpha as Grenadier (fill-in) under SPC F. Mason, featuring Captain Soto with a sick one-two 40mm miniature mortar combo.

Guess who's back.

Anyway, in case you missed it, here is 2nd Lt Brownlee's UPT Graduation Exercise from yesterday's (30SEP17) evening, in all its hilarious commentary-filled gloriousness. Shoutout to Fort Kickass, first of His Name, Lord of the Southern Flank.

Sound volume warning though! My first vid after a long time so the volume mixer is all messed up, my voice is super loud when shit goes down and I'm screaming my head off, would not recommend headphones/earbuds!

Joint operation/training exercise with Havoc 1-4 Weapons Squad. Objective is to destroy a weapons cache that has been hoarded and distributed illegally by a group of scavengers during the chaos of the war occurring on the island of Napf.

This was one of the most enjoyable fire team experiences I've had so far. Everyone had their heads screwed on the right way, knew what they were doing, knew what other people were doing, and did everything as a unit. Buddy teams were never further than 15 meters away from each other (and that was only because we were moving out in the open and had to keep spacing in mind), formations were always on point even during stressful moments, 360 security was always kept when required, reactions to contact were quick and concise as were the reports, movements in open ground as well as in urban terrain were all conducted according to SOP efficiently, etcetera. Especially with PV2 M. White who has just graduated from OSUT a day prior as a fill-in and our usual fire team leader on LOA, I believe Havoc 3-2 Bravo has really stepped up our game for this training exercise.

Except for that one time SPC Castaneda walked into a barn before pie-ing it but I won't hold it against him ;).

Also featuring an untimely weapon jam, a mis-identified cover-penetrating BMP, a garbage M72 LAW user, and low mic volume due to over-adjusting from my last video but I'm not all that interesting anyway.

So Havoc 3-2 had a bit of an incident at the start of Crimson Moon 08-17 on 07OCT17 @ 2000, which we called up the CoC as a mine/IED. However, as Ares chimed in during debrief, there were no IEDs or mines anywhere during the mission, so it was later corrected into a hand grenade ND. After reviewing the footage, I saw no incriminating evidence that anyone could have mistakenly thrown a grenade, but you can judge for yourself here:

The Brawler Revival op from the perspective of Brawler 1-1 Alpha Team Lead. We conducted a mounted patrol in a small island to the south east of Tanoa through multiple ambushes and danger close contacts in dense jungle and urban/rural terrains, shit ton of action in this one since Alpha was the lead element for most of the patrol. Major props to CPL Hardman and SSG M. Brewer for being the pointmen in making this happen, and the members of my fire team, PFC Hudson, PV2 Muller, and PV2 Lantier, for being fucking on point.

Havoc 2-3's squad training was your standard LAW/AT4 & Grenadier range day turned into a base defense mission. I thought this training was interesting due to the billet I was assigned (Designated Marksman) and how shots at different ranges deal significantly varying amounts of damage, even for a 7.62 caliber weapon.

SSG Melius designed a funop for me (spotter), SGT Akulov (sniper), CW2 Macmillan and CPL Newman where we have to role play our way through heavily defended enemy lines as civilians and then take a 1000m+ shot on an HVT on top of a tower near a dock with the wind changing direction every half a minute.

And then escape.

It was pretty tight.

If you're just interested in the shot (1185m), this ~10 minutes video is of me and SGT Akulov setting up for it.

And here's the full cut (720p unfortunately, I really have to remember to fix that).

Field Training Exercise 05-18 was a Rapid Response Planning Process exercise, in which we were briefed in the field of our mission and reacted accordingly. In this FTX the objective was to rescue a BLUFOR POW in a dense urban environment.

This month's platoon training was focused on assaulting an OPFOR-held airstrip, which is totally not a spoiler to what our actual mission will be when we get deployed *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*.

My voice volume was a little low for this one, should be fixed for Havoc 3's first operation this weekend.

Key terrain: Pegasus Airfield, Lolisse (town), Mont Chauvo (OBJ Alpha).
Terrain composition: Shoreline, town, mountains, valleys, sparse forests.

F. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
OPFOR had long range radio backpacks similar to our own, which when combined with low light conditions that made it difficult to PID. Twice in the operation we had to refrain from engaging OPFOR infantry units with said backpacks until we either got close enough to PID, or they shot at us first.

G. RESULTS OF ENCOUNTERS WITH ENEMY

TRAINING CONDUCTED
Havoc 3-2 had a 3IC day, where we went over the basics of fire and maneuver, and reacting to contacts with our 3ICs acting as team leads and squad lead. At the beginning of the training, we went over Havoc 3 SOP regarding load outs and conducted a load out check. We then had a small PID course regarding the BM-21 and to avoid identifying soft targets as armoured vehicles. We also discussed if an armoured target is not engaging us then we should refrain from using our AT, as another squad may already be in the process of using their AT, as well as going over the purpose of the COC. For the live fire portion Havoc 3-2 was tasked with assaulting and clearing out a fortified position uphill, then moving to an extract point and holding it until Phoenix Light arrives.

COMMENTS
Except for a few hiccups at the beginning of the live fire portion due to inexperience, Havoc 3-2 quickly picked up speed and carried out the mission almost identically to our usual manner when the 1ICs were still in charge. The squad moved and cleared out all contacts on our way towards the extract point at a brisk pace, although reporting and dealing with casualties can still be improved upon. Overall, Havoc 3-2's squad training tonight was exceptional considering the inexperience of the fire team leaders, which at the rate we're improving will no longer be a problem in the near future.

Second Phase of Operation Thunderstorm saw Task Force Charlie moving to the South West of Orion Airbase (captured by TF Bravo previously) to clear out the town of Larche, featuring panicked team leaders and sloppy CQCs.

Task Force Charlie was tasked to push South of the town of Larche to clear enemy positions from the surrounding hills. As always though when the bullets fly plans go to hell, so we ended up pushing all the way across the hills to the town of Arudy instead.

Task Force Charlie's mission for Phase 4 was to assault enemy compounds and extract a US ambassador who has been held hostage. Havoc 3-2 was leading the charge on this one as usual and as a result we encountered a shit ton of OPFOR. This one's to my boy SPC Ryckman who dropped mid-way through and never got a re-insert.

Also that BMP-2 that didn't give a shit about my LAW hitting its turret can go fuck itself.

This week's training was a joint training between 3-2 and 3-3, focused on CQC and MOUT. In preparation for tomorrow's FTX we also had 2ICs and 3ICs step up - which is why I'm squad leading. Props to the Ares team for building a massive town from scratch for this training!

Havoc 3's platoon training this month continued to focus on getting the 2ICs trained for the position of the billet 1 step directly above them. This particular training was rather successful in that regard while also improving communication between squads as well.

Task Force Charlie's last mission in Operation Lionheart involves assaulting the Southern airfield, in which 3-2 was tasked as overwatch initially, before moving in to clear enemy positions ourselves. This mission saw incredible amounts of incoming auto-cannon fire and friendly casualties, including KIAs.
