Title: Gaming Laptop
Post by: akoch on February 26, 2016, 12:13:23 PM
Paging anyone who knows more about laptop hardware than me. Anyone know a decent gaming laptop for ArmA 3? I'm not looking to pull 60FPS, just have it be playable. Am gonna be moving out of country for 4 months on business, would like to be able to continue playing when I can.

Thanks to everyone that can help! I know a lot about the software side of things, but am sadly at a loss for most hardware.

I bought one of these

In 2014 and it served me pretty well. Getting a newer model would probably work. With any gaming laptop, watch for shitty hard drives. They like to put old, slow ones in to save cost. Highly recommend buying a ssd and installing it. Most gaming laptops have space for 2 hard drives.

How much are you looking to Spend Koch? I'm trying to sell my Laptop that has a 4790k @ 4Ghz and a 970m in and am happy to ship abroad.

What's the price you're looking at - and how does it perform in ArmA?

Runs ArmA exactly the same as my Desktop. Probably down to it having same CPU as my desktop. However really not cheap, let me know your limit first and i can think about it

Depending on whether or not I get another payment from work before I head off, I can probably stretch it up to $2000. Might buy an entirely new one depending on the prices, though. Feel free to PM me if you want, Captain.

And thanks for the tip, 2LT Ryan! Will look into that as well.

I've had great experiences with ASUS Republic of Gaming laptops.

For that money, I'd probably do something like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232865

I'm currently using this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232465) and it has the same 970M video card and only 12G of ram but it plays Arma (and pretty much everything) at high FPS.
