Title: FARP
Post by: Greybeard on November 27, 2015, 02:28:00 PM
Has the 506th made any videos with a FARP ? If not and if ARMA allows it, it would be an interesting and realistic scenario to see...

We have FARPs for our rotary and fixed wings aircraft at the base. It's not something off base or separate base.

A FARP is by definition, temporary in nature and far forward deployed of the main aviation unit/sustainment area in order to increase the tactical capabilities of the aircraft (such as station time). It would be cool to see a mission with this added ability...

The time to travel is so short on ARMA maps due to their size (typically 20x20) that no matter where the asset is operating, the time to RTB to an airfield compared to employing and maintaining a FARP is negligible. There are also other concerns such as redundant assets that lead to server instability. Every object you add to a mission has a negative effect on performance. When dealing with 60+ people on a server, every object you can save helps.

Nonetheless, I'm sure some creative folks could recreate Operation Eagle Claw (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Eagle_Claw) or something similar by adding different parameters to the helicopters to use more fuel or start a mission with bingo fuel etc.

That makes sense...too bad. Could you set up a mission where the aviation assets are only created at a remote area and not at the main base to avoid the server issues ?
