Why only MOS 11B for ground troops?
« on: February 09, 2015, 12:57:52 PM »
I am a airborne combat engineer 12B1p, with two deployments to Afghanistan.

I was wondering if there are any specialty roles other than 11B MOS posted in the recruiting message?
given real world experience I feel that I could fulfill any counter IED, or demolition roles if needed.

Thanks SapperHutch.

Hutch,

Thanks for the interest and question. Essentially the 506th is an infantry fighting focused unit, coupled with the fact that we limit our server numbers to 60 man Task Forces, we neither have the space or interest in building missions around various support MOS's used in the military. Many of us came from a unit that went too far down that rabbit hole, counting beans and bullets and we came here and built the 506th to avoid just that kind of game play.

Our servers are built around the concept of a single air assault platoon, supported by Bradley fighting vehicles, helicopter aviation and fixed wing A-10 support. We do not plan for or support game play based on other functions that take place in a combat environment.

I hope this answers your question.

In terms of demolitions, we do have the Close Combat Missile teams that destroy armour with the Javelin. And I am really hoping TL's get an approved SOP to use C4 Explosive Charges!

They already do Biggs. TLs are allowed 1x stick of c4 and a clacker. Has been that way in Alpha Co for nearly 3 weeks.

I understand they are cleared to carry them, but I have not been able to obtain any information on a standard procedure for using them.

Send it up your CoC. The General Discussion forum section is not the place for this type of subjects.

Roger that, it was sent up and I have a reply. I was just sharing some of my knowledge on our use of explosives so as to assist Mr. Hutcheson in his decision on billet.

The following is Alpha Companies SOP on DM.

Alpha Company,

The following is the SOP for the Designated Marksmen (DM). The DM is a member of the platoon (a riflemen) who carries and employs the M14 Enhanced Battle Rifle (EBR). The DM employs this rifle to engage enemies further than a standard rifleman, with rapid, accurate, long range fire. Note, this person is not a sniper. The EBR is equipped with the Mk 4 ERIT 2.5-10x M3 optic.

The following SOP's are in effect on how the DM operates, and is implemented into platoons.

  • Only one (1) DM is allowed per platoon
  • The DM must hold the rank of at least PFC
  • The DM fills the role of a rifleman on rosters
  • The DM does not need to be employed on every mission, if it is determined it will not be needed, that rifleman will assume his/her normal rifleman duties. This decision is made by the Platoon HQ
  • It is up to the Platoon HQ to pick their DM
  • Platoon HQ's are allowed to pick their DM however they see fit. (subject to change in the future)
  • The DM is allowed to carry the Beretta M9
  • The DM can only carry 1 rifle at a time. (i.e. they either carry the EBR or an M4)
  • Absolutely NO other optic is allowed on the EBR. If you wish to use something other than the scope (for in events such as CQB) you must use the ironsights
