Title: Video Editing Software
Post by: CW4 Stowe on January 17, 2018, 09:49:24 PM
As I am truly a newb at video recording/editing, I would greatly appreciate any of your advice for software package to enable me to better edit my Arma 3 videos.

Thanks,

Tony

IMHO you can't go wrong with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.  It has everything you need at a reasonable price.  You don't need the very latest version, you could pick up an older version cheaper and it would still do everything you need.

It's not what I use (only because I had already purchased an inferior editor that works well enough to keep using for now) but if I could go back and do it over I'd pick up Sony Vegas instead.

Windows Movie Maker gets the job done too, it's free but they stopped supporting it in 2014 so a little clunky/out of date.

For reference I use Wondershare Filmora (aka Final Cut Pro for Windows) to edit.  As I said, it's serviceable but not great and costs the same as Sony Vegas, so why not just get Vegas instead.

Thanks.  I looked at Filmora last night and I don't have an opinion of it just yet.  I will look at Sony Vegas tonight.

I opened my recent video in Windows Movie Maker last night and it is definitely clunky, I didn't realize it was that out of date!

Thanks for the feedback and I will post my decision soon, if you were wondering...

I use the Adobe Suite with Premier Pro and After Effects combined with DaVinci Resolve for color grading. This is an expensive option and overkill for ArmA Videos, but great for professional work.

SGT Lyon gave me the same recommendation a few months ago, and it truly is great to work with!
(I'm using Sony Vegas Platinum 14)

I found the following Free Video Editors that some of you might find useful.  I am just now trying to figure them out so hopefully I will have some feedback to you all soon.  For the last two, there are paid versions, but all three have a free editor for you to download.

Shotcut - https://shotcut.org/download/

DaVinci Resolve - https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/

HitFilm 4 Express - https://hitfilm.com/express
