CHAOS IN ERZIKISTAN

U.S. Troops defending their fallen comrade. It is not known if this soldier was one of the fatally wounded.

Amidst the deafening roar of transports and rotary wing aircraft, a silent and somber mood surrounds the men and women of U.S. armed forces stationed at Airbase Minnesota in the little known Al Rayak province of Erzikistan.

Recent events appear to be weighing heavily on troops of the 506th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. After a series of highly successful patrols and raids in the Kalu Khan region of the country, where the forces of the Erzikistani Republic were pushed out of the region with comparatively light casualties, many were expecting Al Rayak to be more of the same.

Details are still sparse at this time but it is known that a number of American lives have been lost during recent combat operations within days of their arrival in the Al Rayak province.

As far as we at the International Times know, local police forces who have been working closely with U.S. Forces since their arrival in the troubled country, may have at some point opened fire on United States Army personnel. Preliminary reports from civilian sources point to the incident being a deliberate attack over the original assumption of 'friendly fire', possibly motivated by the civilian casualties suffered by the population of Erzikistan since the beginning of the U.S. intervention in the region.

There is no knowledge as yet of the total number of dead and wounded. All requests to interview those involved have been denied until a formal press statement is released. As stated before, information is limited at this time and will be reported as soon as it becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased.
